Delayed & Non-Union Fractures and Bone Healing Complications
What are Delayed and Non-Unions?
A delayed union refers to a fracture that takes longer than normal to heal, while a non-union is a fracture that fails to heal entirely after 6–9 months. These conditions are commonly seen in:
- Tibia and femur shafts
- Humerus, clavicle, and metatarsals
- Pelvis and long bones under mechanical stress
Causes include poor blood supply, instability, infection, smoking, or inadequate immobilization. Symptoms may include persistent pain, limited function, and visible fracture lines on imaging.
Non-unions often require invasive interventions, such as bone grafts or repeat surgeries—unless regenerative therapies are applied early.
How reGener8 treats it
The reGener8 ZS1019 delivers Focused ShockWave™ Therapy, clinically proven to stimulate bone healing and repair by activating biological regeneration at the fracture site.
How It Works:
- Mechanotransduction: Converts acoustic energy into biological responses in bone cells (osteoblasts)
- Induces Angiogenesis: Stimulates new blood vessel formation in the non-healing bone
- Increases BMP and VEGF: Promotes osteogenesis (new bone formation) and vascularization
- Enhances Bone Remodeling: Triggers periosteal and cortical healing responses
Why Focused Therapy is Critical:
- Penetrates up to 8–12 cm, reaching deep cortical and medullary bone
- Localized, high-intensity stimulation initiates healing where natural processes have stalled
- Avoids complications and recovery time associated with surgery
Device Capabilities:
- Focused probe with up to 6 Bar pressure and up to 21 Hz frequency
- Ideal for targeting non-unions in tibia, humerus, femur, or metatarsals
- Designed for orthopaedic, rehabilitation, and sports medicine practices
This treatment is widely used in orthopaedic trauma, post-surgical follow-up, and high-risk patient groups with impaired healing capacity.
Recommended treatment protocol
- Mode: Focused ShockWave™ Therapy
- Energy: 5–6 Bar
- Frequency: 8–12 Hz
- Shocks per session: 2500–3000
- Sessions: 3–6
- Interval between sessions: Every 5–7 days
Treatment should be directed precisely at the fracture or pseudoarthrosis line. Use diagnostic imaging to localize the site. In complex cases, therapy may be combined with bone stimulation protocols.
